Funding

Funding is based on unpredictable annual state appropriation. Connecticut's charter schools receive, on average, $10,000 per pupil, compared to the $14,781 that conventional district public schools receive.

ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Test Scores

Among African American charter school students in grades six through eight, students in charters outperformed their peers a full ten percentage points more - 68.4 to 58.3 percent.

Closures

Charter school closures are evidence of accountability in action. As of February 2009, five Connecticut charters have been closed, three for financial reasons, one for mismanagement, and one for poor academic performance.
