EQUITY

Funding

Funding for charter schools is not addressed in the charter law, nor is there a section that offers guidelines or other points of reference. According to 2006 figures, Kansas' charter schools receive, on average, $5,601 per pupil.

ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Test Scores

Looking at the minimal data provided by the Kansas Department of Education, elementary and middle school charter students are performing the same as or slightly better than their peers in traditional public schools.

Closures

Charter school closures are evidence of accountability in action. As of February 2009, ten Kansas charters had been closed, the majority the result of simple school board politics.
