ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Test Scores

51 percent of charter schools performed better than the state average in both reading and science. Statistics from 2003 to 2007 show a significant increase in both reading and math achievement.

Closures

As of February 2009, eight Oregon charters have been closed. Since only local school boards may approve charter schools in Oregon, objectivity in the charter school oversight and authorizing process is hampered.
