ACHIEVEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Test Scores

Of the ten charter schools reporting data in Rhode Island, nine either met or outperformed reading and math proficiency levels of the district schools from which they enroll new students. Three of those charter schools even outperformed the average level of proficiency statewide.

Closures

As of February 2009, no Rhode Island charter school has been closed. But in the absence of impartial authorizers and true autonomy for charter operators, charter growth and true accountability are hindered.
